Duchess

"It's O.K. My Darlings"

The Walt Disney Company was coming to my school today to try to recruit students to flip burgers and clean bathrooms down at Walt Disney World in Florida, so I decided to take advantage of this and use the oppertunity to show some Walt Disney employees my artwork portfolio. This got me thinking about Disney, and more so about Duchess and Vixey and drawing them again. I had originally planned to draw something really sharp with all of my fancy art supplies, but instead wound up with this doodle. I was so excited about drawing a Disney character that I couldn't wait until I was done with classes for the day and started doodling Disney related thoughts and ideas in my college ruled notebooks. One of them was a rough sketch of an anthropomorphic Duchess, which I had often thought about drawing before but never had. Despite how rough and sloppy it was I continued to work on it and modify it throughout the day and eventually ended up with a drawing that was too cute to just leave in my notebook.

I brought the drawing to my room and threw it onto my scanner with the hope that I could clean it up O.K. on my computer so that the drawing would look somewhat presentable. I spent about an hour and a half cleaning it up on my computer when I decided it was just barely suitable for coloring and printed it out and then colored it. The result is what you see here. This sketch is definitely not perfect nor is it my best work. It is to be noted however that this drawing of Duchess was completely from memory-- I had no previous drawings or pictures of Duchess to look at while I did this. This proves I have Duchess's character design down pretty much by heart! The title of this drawing, "It's O.K. My Darlings," comes from a word bubble that I originally wanted to add to this drawing but then decided at the last minute to leave it out. Unfortunately, the Walt Disney Reps didn't seem very impressed with my artwork portfolio when I showed it to them. This drawing was part of that portfolio, so I hope all of you like this drawing more than they seemed to.

This drawing was done on college ruled notebook paper. For the pencil work I used a .05mm mechanical pencil with 2HB lead. I scanned the drawing and cleaned it up in Paintshop Pro 7.02, and then printed it. The print out was on standard fax/copy paper and was colored with Crayola and Sanford Prismacolor colored pencils. The lettering was added with Paint Shop Pro 7.02.
