Carli Chinchilla

"Campus Carli"

A few months ago a friend of mine had wanted me to draw a picture for him. He had a pet chinchilla and wanted to know if I could draw him a chinchilla girl. When he asked for a chinchilla girl one cartoon character immediately sprang to mind: Carli Chinchilla from Eric Schwartz's online comic strip Sabrina. At the time I had a long list of drawings that I wanted to do and said that I would get to his drawing as soon as I could. A few months later I made good on my word and asked Mr. Schwartz if he would mind if I drew his character. He told me he didn't, and was even kind enough to e-mail me some drawings of Carli to help me learn how to draw her correctly.

One Saturday afternoon I surprised my friend with a visit. Since the drawing was going to be his I asked what he wanted his Chinchilla girl to be doing in the drawing. After giving several answers which are too inappropriate to mention on this website and would have gotten me in big trouble with Mr. Schwartz he finally agreed to have me draw Carli having a good time drinking a bottle of his favorite beer, Rolling Rock. (The label on the bottle is covered up by her hand, so for the sake of this website let us just say she's drinking 7UP!) With an idea of what my friend wanted fresh in my mind I went back to my dorm room and went straight to work that evening. In a record time of about 4 hours I got his drawing penciled, inked, and colored, and had the finished product in his hands in time to attend his weekend apartment party. I have to admit that the drawing isn't quite as nice looking as Eric Schwartz's originals, however I think it turned out miraculously well considering that this was my first time drawing Carli and how quickly I managed to draw the picture.

I e-mailed Eric Schwartz to ask permission to post this drawing on my website and to hear what he thought about it and this was his response:

It looks quite nice to me. You're welcome to post it on your site if you wish.

Thanks again Mr. Schwartz! My friend really liked the drawing and I also now get to share it with all of you. I hope you all like it as much as Eric Schwartz and my friend did!

The rough pencil work was done on 80lb. medium surface Strathmore drawing paper with a Sanford non-photo blue pencil. It was inked with a size 08 ZiG Millennium archival ink pen. The result was cleaned up with Paint Shop Pro 7.02 and printed on fax/copy paper. The printout was colored with Crayola colored pencils. The lettering was done with Paint Shop Pro 7.02.

Please e-mail me if you save or copy this picture!

I would love to know that you like it!
