Duchess

"Formal Feline Family"

On my last weekend of freedom before college finals I was a little stressed out about the tough round of studying I had before me. To make myself feel a little better and relieve some stress I decided to draw a cute little drawing of Duchess. This pose of Duchess comes from a scene near the end of the film where Duchess, O'Malley, and the kittens are all together sitting on a chair posing to have their picture taken. This scene is featured in the Disney lithograph "Formal Feline Family," which I have as part of my animation artwork collection. I had wanted to draw Duchess in this adorable pose for a long time, but before now I had never gotten around to it.

I ended up having a little bit of trouble drawing Duchess in this pose-- I had to do a lot of erasing and redrawing. I also had to do a little bit of guess work on this drawing because in the movie much of Duchess was covered up by the kittens who were sitting in front of her. None the less, I am very happy with this drawing and had a lot of fun making it. I was so proud of it in fact that I posted a copy of it on the outside of my dorm room door, much to the amusement of my college neighbors who promptly poked fun at me for it. I suppose I deserve it for I am sure there are not too many college guys out there with Aristocats artwork in their dorm room! However, in the end they all admitted they thought my drawing was really good, and hopefully you think so too.

This drawing was done on 80lb. medium surface Strathmore drawing paper. For the rough pencil work I used a non-photo blue pencil. I then inked the drawing with a size 08 ZiG Millennium and a size 05 Pigma Micron. I scanned the drawing and cleaned it up in Paintshop Pro 7.02, and then printed it. The print out was on standard fax/copy paper and was colored with Crayola and Sanford Prismacolor colored pencils. The lettering and gradient was added with Paint Shop Pro 7.02.

Please e-mail me if you save or copy this picture!

I would love to know that you like it!
