Duchess

"Duchess Explains to O'Malley"

I finally bought an original Disney production cel of Duchess from the Van Eaton Gallery. The pose is from a few moments later than the pose from the cel that "Final Nights" is based after. Even so, I still like the original side profile pose much better. The production cel is displayed on this page so that you can make the comparison between the cel and my drawing. I know they are far from a perfect match, but then again I did it free hand and I am not a Disney animator. I know for a fact that Disney animators draw their characters using a completely different method than I do. Besides, it's the little differences in the drawing that define it as "mine."

This scene is from the roof top of Thomas O'Malley's pad in the blue collar district of Paris. Here Duchess is explaining to O'Malley how even though she loves him, she has to leave him and return to her owner, probably never seeing him again. This drawing was originally done with a .05mm mechanical pencil with 2HB and 5H leads, darkened on the computer with Paint Shop Pro 3, and then colored with colored pencils.

I would love to know that you like it!
