I was rummaging through the 50 cent bin at Metropolis comics one day when I came across a gem: issue number 32 of the Omega Men. On the cover of this 1985 comic book was Felicity the catwoman. I bought the comic book so that I could draw her. In the comic book she was a former member of the Omega Men who had traveled back to her homeworld to find her roots. Having been raised around humans all her life, she found it hard to fit in with her homeworld society. After being unable to find any other kind of work, she eventually became an exotic dancer. She even has problems with this however because she doesn't know how to act on stage and can't even purr. Eventually a human bartender gives her a place to stay and teaches her how to dance. One of her better lines in the book was, "I can't act like I'm in heat all the time, it's unnatural!"
I found Felicity a very challenging character to draw. I have the hardest time drawing mainstream comic book characters from the 70's and 80's because the drawing style is extremely different from my own. Both Felicity and Atuarre are in this style. I need to throw out my manga style rule book to make them look correct. I used a .05mm mechanical pencil with both 2HB and 5H leads on 80lb. Strathmore paper. I darkened my pencil work with Paint Shop Pro 3 and colored the results with colored pencils.
